Fuser are a pair of rollers within the printer which, as its name itself suggests, causes the toner to fuse with the paper to produce the desired text and images on the paper and which simultaneously heats up the paper in the process. Normally the fuser has a lifetime of 100,000 to 200,000 pages, and the following symptoms would indicate that the fuser needs replacement:

Lexmark E460Dn Fuser Replacement:

In addition to the above symptoms, the printer might display error codes starting with 920 through 925- 920.XX, 921.XX, 922.XX, 923.XX, 924.XX, 925.XX; where X is any number.

  • Firstly, turn off the power supply to the printer and unplug the machine.
  • Using a screwdriver unscrew the two screws on the grey covers behind the tray.
  • Flip the machine on the side and remove the last screw on the right side cover.
  • Then press the two plastic tabs inwards to release the side cover.
  • Carefully remove the side cover and then place the machine on the other side and repeat the same process to remove the other side cover.
  • Place the machine upright, open the rear door and pull it out firmly.
  • Unscrew the two screws on the rear cover and remove it.
  • Unscrew the two screws on the top side of the top cover.
  • Lift the top cover up to release it.
  • There are a total of six screws on the rear exit guide assembly that needs to be unscrewed.
  • On the main board unplug the three cables connected to the fuser and the rear assembly guide.
  • Unplug the two cables on the exit guide and remove it.
  • Unscrew the two screws holding in the fuser and pull it out slowly by pressing the metal plate to release it.
  • Carefully remove the fuser making sure that its two cables are unplugged.
  • Install the new fuser by plugging in the two cables and attach the metal plate.
  • Then go on putting the parts back in the reverse order in which they were removed.

Lexmark C792 Fuser Replacement:

  • Turn off the device and unplug it.
  • Open the side cover by removing the screws.
  • Gently pull out the used fuser by unplugging the cables attached to it.
  • Unpack the new fuser and insert it in the place of the old one by fixing the necessary screws and plugging the cables.
  • Close the side cover/door.

Lexmark Cx510De Fuser Replacement:

  • Turn off the device and unplug it.
  • Gently lower the rear door by releasing the latch on its topside.
  • Release the levers holding in the fuser, unplug the cables attached to it and take it out carefully.
  • Cautiously lower the new fuser into the right place holding it by its handle.
  • Turn the two levers and plug in the two cables.
  • Close the rear door by pressing in the latch.

Lexmark T642 Fuser Replacement:

  • Turn off the device and unplug it.
  • Remove the redrive door and its cap.
  • Remove the redrive assembly by unscrewing the four screws holding it in position.
  • Unscrew the two screws screwed onto the fuser, unplug the cables and take it out gently.
  • Place in the new fuser, plug in the cables and fix the screws.
  • Snap in the redrive assembly.
  • Lastly, put back the redrive cover and the cap.
